Moving onto P1 in Maddiston Primary School

We are delighted to share our transition information with you and hope you find this information informative and reassuring.

P1 Entrance and Exit

This is the door that our P1 pupils will enter and exit through. It is at the front of the school to the left of the main school entrance.

Starting School at Maddiston Primary in August 2023

We are looking forward to welcoming your children to P1 in Maddiston Primary as they continue their learning journey into school.

Day 1: WEDNESDAY 16th AUGUST

Drop off: Your child will start school on Wednesday 16^th August 2023 at 9.30am. Please line up with your child at the cone indicating your child’s class. When the doors open at 9.30am, please come into school through the door at the side of the main entrance where you will be escorted into the hall.

Your child’s teacher will be there to meet and greet and will lead the children to their classroom. You can accompany your child to the class to settle them and take a quick photo before leaving. Thereafter, you are invited to join us for tea/coffee in the lunch hall.

Break: 10.30am-10.45am - Please provide your child with one small snack for this time.

Lunch: 12.15pm -1pm – Children can opt for a school lunch, packed lunch or go home for lunch.

Pick up: 2.30pm. Children will be released from the door at the side of the main entrance. This is where they will exit from every day.

Day 2 onwards: THURSDAY 17^th AUGUST

Drop off: 9am– Children should line up at the cone indicating their class. If children arrive after 9am, they will enter the main school building and report to the office.

Pick up: 3pm – Please wait for the children in the area outside the main entrance. The children will be dismissed by the teacher. Please be prompt at 3pm as children can get very upset if there is no one there to collect. In the event of an emergency, please contact the school to let us know if there has been an unexpected delay.

Children should be collected at the end of the day from the door to the left of the main school entrance.

Please make sure EVERYTHING is labelled with your child’s name.

What your child should bring with them on their first day:

School bag
Lunch box (if staying for a packed lunch)
Water bottle
A photo or picture of something that matters to them – could be their dog, a favourite toy, their family. This will stay in school and be displayed on the wall.

Your child should not bring in a pencil case or other items from home. All the resources they need are available in school. Please keep pencil cases and stationary for homework and for children to enjoy using at home. Your child’s teacher will let you know when a PE kit should be handed in.

We know this is a very exciting time for all our families but that some of you will be anxious too. We are working hard to ensure this is a safe and enjoyable start to their P1 year at Maddiston Primary.
