Rights Knights 2024
We have a steering group who meet every Monday lunch time to learn about, through and for rights. This steering group is open to all pupils who are interested in learning more about the UNCRC and planning for new and exciting ways to create awareness of children's rights in our school and local community.
We have recently held a mascot competition and had a panel of pupils, staff and parents vote for their favourite. Our winning entry was from Aurora in P7 and we are in the process of trying to get her design made into a stuffed toy. This mascot will help us to deliver our right of the month inclusively across the whole school and raise awareness of rights beyond the school gates too.
As well as this, we are hoping to engage members of our community through the use of QR codes in the local area, so keep an eye out, scan and let your device inform you about the UNCRC and what’s involved in being a rights respecting school.
Rights Knights
In 1989, governments across the world promised that every child would have the same rights when they adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The convention tells everyone what they must do to make sure that every child can grow, learn, be safe, can be listened to and treated fairly.
The Rights Knights group get together with Mrs McMenaman and Miss Black and work together to ensure all pupils and staff across Maddiston Primary know, uphold and respect the Rights of the Child.
